Iona Beach
I stood upon a lonely beach,
amidst the beauty of which I was surrounded.
Coeruleum sea stretched out
to kiss the waiting sky.
In the distance, the waves caressed the Dutchman's cap.
Afar they crashed to Fingal's cave
with a timpani of sound.
Bare feet, warmed by golden sand,
whispering grass atop the white-faced dunes.
No words will ever express that inner beat
that comes from majesty so rare.
In that lingering moment when time stood still,
so small I felt and yet a part.
Stooping, I took within my palm,
a million grains of sand,
letting them trickle through my outstretched fingers,
reminding me that time moves ever onward,.
like the grain of sand that passes through the hourglass of my life.
Each tiny grain its part does play
to make this vast and wondrous universe.
Each grain and particle to make this stretch of sand.
Each plays its part and takes its place.
I, also have my part to play
to make the greater part.
Creation knows each golden gem,
and for this time knows also me
and does not let me slip
but holds me fast and helps me take my place.
Every Hair is Cared For.
Have you ever felt so alone that you ached inside? Loneliness is something that is often talked about, but to experience it is another matter. There is a world of difference from being alone and suffering loneliness.
Alone it is still possible to feel and experience the beauty of the world around us. Such times of aloneness to experience in silence the wonder of nature, is a life healing thing.
Loneliness is something other, it sees only desolation, it is only aware of that churning feeling that life is not as you would want it to be. It yearns for human touch, for a sharing experience, to have somebody who cares, anybody. Such a feeling does nothing for our inner being or our wellbeing.
It seems far too simple to say to such a person that there is a greater power, a God, energy or force that cares. When the desolation of loneliness fills a life these words are empty and almost meaningless. They can sound empty, nothing more than just words, the loneliness is neither helped nor stopped by such words.
At such times it is helpful rather than listen to words, rather focus on the many times in life you have been touched by a simple act of kindness. Some would say that it is in such acts that we are touched by something greater than ourselves. It may sound naive and too simple to be true, but it is so often the case that the greatest words of wisdom lie discarded in the scrap heap of experience because they sound too simple.
When we remember the times when we felt at our best, and life was feeling good, you can be sure that somewhere in the midst of all of this there was knowledge of somebody who cared. In counting the blessing of our lives that brought a good and positive feeling about life it is a small step, in whatever way possible, to bring such an act of kindness to another.
The first step to no longer being surrounded by that empty feeling is to become aware of the poverty of the lives of others. To reach out in whatever way we can to bring some moment of joy to another human being.
We each have a part to play in this great scheme of things. There is no doubt in my mind that we can all in some way or another touch the life of another person and such acts, in turn, bring back many blessings to the giver.
I costs nothing to say hello or to offer a smile.
