Changing Seasons

Changing Seasons

The last few remaining leaves
hold tenaciously to life.
All around a canopy of gold,
Formed by those that long ago gave up,
let go their hold,
and fell.
Another season passes and winter takes its place.
Moments come and moments go,
life ever onwards moves.
The hands of time are never stationary.
A leaf holds on
as if aware of the value of life.
We too hold on, but ofttimes to the past.
Cling to that which has long gone,
attempting the impossible a static life,
amid the turmoil of daily change.
In doing, we lose that very moment of vitality.
While we look back,
the season changes,
is gone to be no more.
This moment, this now, is but a breath away,
from being gone forever.
Each season has its beauty,
each second has its worth,
to be lived as precious and unique.
When can we learn?
Time is not about duration,
rather the quality of its being.

For Everything a Season

“There is a time for everything, and a season for everything under heaven:
A time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance.”

Eccles: 3

How very easy it is to dwell in the past: to remember the good only the good times. Equally how strange that for so many of us the good times all seem to be in the past, by this very fact the times of this present moment will become the good times of our tomorrows.

Time itself by its very nature is neither good nor bad, rather it is a moment to be lived. There are lessons to be learned from the past, it is the fool that ignores that which has gone before. How much better many of the memories of the past might have been had we taken the time to learn the lessons that were there to be learned. There is a well- known saying that the new broom makes a clean sweep. If we take the new broom to our past we way may sweep away the good grain along with the chaff and the lessons that had something to offer lost. The wise person allows the winds of time to separate the good from the bad, but this cannot happen if we are so busy brushing from out thoughts the little niggles and worries that may have had a grain of learning.

Having learned that the past has much to teach and much happiness to offer, there is something sad to meet people who have little to share but memories. Memories are not a bad thing, in fact, there is much happiness in the sharing of times shared and personal experiences. The thing that must not be forgotten is that every moment lived in the past is eating away the moments of the present. We must not let the challenges of the day and life slip away into the attic of yesterday.

One other thing that should be taken into full account is that it is in the cupboards of the past where dwell the resentments which can cripple our tomorrows. Grievances held onto can creep out to haunt our present, eating away at the inner peace and bring on a sense of dis-ease.

Such dis-eases closes the door to new challenges that could be waiting around every bend and every new moment. How much can be lost by holding on to the hurts of the past which stop us either forgiving or forgetting?

There is a good case for remembering the old saying, Let Go and Let Be. In this way, each day can be more exciting than in the past. If we spend too much time discussing our history we will miss the opportunity to create anew exciting history for tomorrow.
